There are different types of communication in classroom environment, such as cooperative learning, group discussion, role playing, and storytelling.
Cooperative learning is one of the communication activities and is a winning teaching strategy in which small teams, each with students of different levels of facility, use a variety of learning activities to improve their understanding of a subject. Each member of a team is responsible not only for learning what is taught but also for helping teammates learn, thus creating a feeling of achievement. Students work through the assignment until all group members successfully understand and complete it. Cooperative efforts result in participants striving for mutual benefit so that all group members will gain from each other's efforts and recognize that all group members share a common fate (Higgs and Theodore 1981). Also, to know that one's performance is mutually caused by oneself and one's team members. A group member who is recognized for achievement will feel proud.
Group discussion is a modern activity of assessing student behaviors. It is both a technique and an art and a comprehensive tool. It motivates of thinking in a new way and expansion of knowledge. It alerts students of their strength and weakness.
Role playing is part of an enduring process to develop cooperation among students. Trust among group members is essential. Learners are unlikely to fully participate if they do not know each other and have not developed a sense of mutual trust. In role playing, students act out characters in a predefined situation dealing with contentious aspects.
Storytelling creates magical and a sense of wonder at the world. Stories teach student about life, about themselves and about others. Storytelling is a unique way for students to develop an understanding, respect and appreciation for other cultures, and can promote a positive attitude to people from different lands, races and religions. It provides student a feeling of well-being and relaxation, increase student's willingness to communicate thoughts and feelings. It encourages active participation, increase verbal ability, encourage use of imagination and creativity and encourage cooperation between students. Finally, it enhances listening skills.
