There can be many reasons. I think that the five reasons would be:

  1. The students was sick (or was just not feeling well).
  2. The students was absent-minded and forgot to do his / her homework.
  3. The student did not understand the task because it was not clearly explained by the teacher.
  4. The student was very busy preparing another assignment.
  5. The home assignment was not interesting.
